What makes Father’s Day special?

I hope you all had a greMally Photsat Father’s Day weekend! I surely did!

Father’s day is always a wonderful day for me, but it is also one which gives me grave concern.

First of all, there are no words large enough to contain all the reasons I am thankful for my wonderful family, especially for my wife, Mary, without whom none of them would exist! Then too, for her long gone mother Emma, and her father James, whom I never met. He died at a very young age leaving Emma alone with two teenagers.

Next, I am thankful for our three sons and our daughter. They are all exceptional young adults; I am so proud of them and their kids. No one would be more proud of them than I.

So why am I gravely concerned? Simply stated, because there are so many dads who do not know their kids, really know them, and consequently do not know all the joy their kids might give them!

I often tells kids who do not know their fathers that I have empathy for them, but I really feel sorry for their dads. I tell them that I have been a dad and a son, and being a dad is so much greater.

Being a dad is filled with happiness, joy, pride, and work, too. But the family is what makes the work worthwhile, turns worry into joy, makes success out of failure, hope into reward, and fulfills live. At least that’s how it has been for me!

The situation becomes grave when we consider how not having a righteous dad to share with, learn from, and emulate can lead to under-performance in so many areas of a kids life. If you have kids, be their dad, not only for them, but also for yourself. Being a dad may make you a better man!

Once again, I hope your weekend was spectacular. If not, work hard enough this next year to make next years the best Father’s Day ever.

Thanks Kay and Mike for the use of your photo. You have a wonderful family!
