A Most Powerful Movie

I dare you to see “Last Ounce of Courage” and not have it change your life! Or not cause your heart to ache with passion! Or need a glass or two of water to refill your tear reservoir!

Without doubt, this is the most powerful movie I have ever seen. Now, I realize those of you who know me will laugh at that, as you all know that I see only 2-3 movies a year. But believe me, even those who see hundreds of movies yearly will consider this one of the best!

I won’t apologize for the fact that there is no vulgar or obscene language, no sex, and only two very short war scenes which do not celebrate violence. Take any kid over the age of  nine or ten; they’ll gain a lot from the 101 minutes, provided they survive the previews of things to come. But, that’s another story.

This is the story of a man’s love for his son, and how he adapts, or doesn’t, to his son being killed in the war. It is also about love of family, and country, and being true to one’s beliefs. There is even more, it’s about religious freedom! And it presents all of this without, in my opinion, being political!

I can guarantee that you won’t know any of the actors, but you will love them anyhow. I make no bones about not being a movie critic, which gives me license to not remember their names either. But, if the man who plays Bob, the father, doesn’t get an Oscar for this film, Oscars have no meaning. And the boy who plays his grandson should also be a nominee for an Oscar. But, this is not a Hollywood movie, so there is little hope for recognition.

Everyone who has ever been in the military, or has a friend or relative who has served, should see it! So should everyone who is at all concerned that we can not wish a friend “Merry Christmas“,  post the Ten Commandments in the court house, say a prayer before a football game or a big test, has an obligation to see this movie. Include in that group those who are wondering why a picture of a crucifix in a container of urine merits posting in the museum and a cartoon of Mohamed causes riots through out the world!

It was only released last week, so should be around a few more week, but don’t count on it! See it ASAP.  I don’t know when the DVD will come out, but when I find out. I’ll tell you. Show this movie at your women’s club meetings, high school or college social science class, in your religious study group, your bible reading group, men’s group, meetings of your Lion’s Club, Rotary, VFW, Knights of Columbus, or whereever people of character gather!

Let me know your thoughts!
